The Heartbeat Bill
The hearbeat bill is proposed legislation in Ohio that will restrict any abortions from taking place after a heatbeat has been detected on an ultrasound. The bill has already made it through the House of Representatives and is about to go to the Senate. If this bill is passed it will be the nation's most strict abortion restriction seeing that a heartbeat can be heard as early as the sixth week of a pregnancy.
State Representative Lynn Wachtmann (the sponsor of the bill) argues that doctors and nurses carefully monitor the heartbeats of patients all of the time so why would a critical indicator of life be ignored when it develops in an unborn child?
The pro-choice community is not happy about this proposed piece of legislation. They argue that this would make it very difficult on many women because a number of pregnancies are not even detected until after six weeks.
